The appearances of Wanderlei Silva in the octagon they are increasingly rare. The former Pride champion, who was used to having up to six fights a year, fought just once in 2012, when he was defeated by Rich Franklin at UFC 147, in Belo Horizonte. But anyone who thinks that Wand is close to retirement is mistaken.
The Brazilian even says he is willing to “save” Ultimate events, replacing athletes at the last minute, as he did Anderson Silva at UFC Rio 3, when the middleweight champion entered the show's card in place of the injured man José Aldo.
“If the UFC needs a guy to save any event, I'll be ready in a matter of a month. I'm eating very well and I'm healthy at the moment, no injuries. I sleep and wake up early to drink my coffee properly”, said Wand, in an interview with the website MMA Junkie.
