Ultimate opened registrations for the second edition of TUF Brasil for the lightweight (up to 70 kg.) and welterweight (up to 77 kg.) categories, however, right after UFC Rio 3, Dana White, president of the UFC, revealed that the reality show will only have one category up for grabs.
This Monday (15th) the first selection for the program takes place in Rio de Janeiro and the program's evaluators decided that only the welterweights were part of the house, leaving the lightweights out of the dispute. In addition to the best selection among athletes weighing up to 77 kg, another reason that led to the choice was the number of athletes who have contracts with the organization in the respective divisions. While among the lightweights there are 68 fighters, among the welterweights 58 have a contract with the UFC.
Recordings for TUF Brasil 2 begin in January, and the program's premiere will be in March, again being broadcast on Rede Globo
