“Now, we can talk about him (Jones). I didn't want to talk before the fight because my opponent was Dominick. Now, I don't have an opponent. Then, Jon Jones. Why not? But, no one knows what he will do at the moment. We will see. He promised me this fight”, said the Pole at a press conference after this weekend’s show.
Although he continues with the dream of exchanging forces against 'Bones', Blachowicz understands that the confrontation is unlikely to happen, at least in the near future. The former champion relinquished the title in August and made his move to the heavyweight division (up to 120,2kg) official. With that in mind, he already has an alternative for his next opponent.
“Maybe Thiago Santos (Marreta), if he wins the fight against Teixeira (Glover). That would be really good”, said the new champion.
In addition to his first title defense, a clash against Marreta will have a special flavor for the Pole. The Brazilian was responsible for the last defeat in Blachowicz's career, in February last year, when Thiago brutalized Jan with a knockout in the third round.
Current number two in the rankings, Marreta has a fight scheduled for November 7th against Glover. The athletes exchange forces in the duel that should define the next challenger for the belt.
