Brazil may host UFC edition in football stadium in 2013

Holding an event in a large football stadium is one of the UFC's biggest goals. After failing to carry out the fight between Anderson Silva e Chael Sonnen, at the Engenhão Stadium, in Brazil, at UFC 147 – The fight was transferred to UFC 148 because in the same week the capital of Rio de Janeiro was hosting Rio +20 – and considering the duel between Spider and Georges St Pierre At the “Cowboys Stadium” in Dallas the subject was back on the directors’ agenda.

Now, Brazil is once again being considered to host an edition of the UFC in an open stadium and several cities are already bidding to host the show, such as Porto Alegre, in the new Grêmio stadium, or the Fortaleza Arena, built for the World Cup 2014. When asked about the possibility, Marshall Zelaznik,  Director of international development at UFC, stated that in the second half of 2013 Brazil could be the stage for the dreamed edition.

PUBLICITY:

“Our plan is to hold (an event in a stadium) next year, as we tried in Engenhão. We know that wherever we do it will be a great success. I believe that in the third or fourth quarter we will do an event in a stadium”, said Marshall during this Thursday’s press conference.
