One of the biggest fights of 2020 will take place at UFC 254, an event that will be held on October 24th, on Luta Island, in Abu Dhabi. The MMA community will stop to watch the duel between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Justin gaethje, valid for the lightweight belt (70,3kg) and expectations are high, because the challenger is considered one of the few fighters capable of offering danger to the Russian.
Gaethje himself knows this and, at ESPN American, analyzed the combat. Known for being one of the most violent fighters in the sport, 'The Highlight' assured that fans can expect a real battle, showed confidence in his wrestling to stop the champion's attacks and guaranteed that he will make him bleed in the Octagon.
“I believe that Khabib will have a very difficult time taking me to the cage. I know I will see Khabib's blood. I want him to see his own blood and I want to see his reaction. He's not as crazy as me. Khabib is crazy, because he likes to compete, but he doesn't like me as much. I'm sure he didn't see his own blood, due to his fighting style. I bet it doesn't even cross his mind that he'll see his own blood. This is something new for Khabib,” said Gaethje.
Gaethje is fully aware of the magnitude of this fight and is taking it very seriously. The interim lightweight champion even showed his ambition by mentioning Khabib's name and also Conor McGregor.
“There are different types of wealth. Beating Khabib would give me wealth worth a generation. Win or lose, I'm going to ask my mom to call her boss and tell him she's retiring. This fight is huge in the sporting and financial sphere! Legacy. That's why I'm excited. I've been watching MMA for a long time and I really think that if I beat Khabib and then beat McGregor I will have an incomparable achievement. Khabib is number one pound-for-pound and that has to be taken into account. When I lost two fights in a row, everyone thought I was finished. Many like my style, but they never imagined me fighting for the belt like that. I’m fighting to create a legacy!”, he concluded.
At 31, Justin gaethje reached the position of lightweight challenger by winning four consecutive victories. His performances were so impressive that the American won the performance bonus in all of them, for having knocked out James Vick, Edson Barboza, Donald Cerrone e Tony Ferguson. In the latter, Gaethje also won the best fight bonus.
