The hepatitis suffered by Gerônimo Mondragon also took away his compatriot Gabriel Napao from the UFC Rio 3 fight program, an event that takes place on October 13th, at the HSBC Arena, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian heavyweights were scheduled to face each other on the show's preliminary card, but as Mondragon, who was making his Ultimate debut, was ill, the organization was unable to find a new opponent to face Napão.
Gabriel's departure was confirmed on Sunday night, when the UFC released the official broadcast schedule for the fights. Initially the duel between Napão and Mondragon would be broadcast on open TV in the United States, but with the cancellation the fight between Serginho Moraes and Renee Forte, two former TUF Brasil participants, will be shown on FX in the United States.
