Colby Covington dominates Tyron Woodley and wins by TKO at UFC Las Vegas 11

Main fight has an unusual ending, when former champion withdrew from the duel after a supposed injury in the last round

Colby covington promised and fulfilled. In the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 11, held this Saturday (19), in the United States, 'Chaos' didn't give a chance to Tyron woodley and beat the former champion with a technical knockout in the last round. At the time, the former welterweight leader (under 77kg) reported a supposed injury and shouted for the duel to be ended.

The clash between Covington and Woodley was highly anticipated by MMA fans as they are two athletes with the qualities to hold the title. Former training partners and personal enemies, the fighters were also fighting for a direct opportunity to fight for the belt, which today belongs to Kamaru Usman.

With the result, Covington wins again after the setback suffered by the current champion in December last year. Number two in the ranking, the North American now awaits the challenge between Usman and Gilbert Durinho, who negotiate a duel for the UFC 256.

Woodley, who was unable to impose his pace against Colby, confirmed the bad phase of his career. At 38 years old, the former division leader now has three defeats in a row.

The fight

Woodley took the initiative in the confrontation with a jab. Covington responded with a low kick. Before the first minute, Colby managed to take down the former linear champion and started throwing blows from top to bottom. Tyron tried to control the situation, but the advantage went to his rival. Using a lot of strength, Woodley managed to get up and the athletes returned to exchanging blows in the center of the octagon. In the final moments of the round, Covington connected with a powerful left cross and then grabbed his opponent. Tyron tried to free himself, but his opponent controlled the action well. Woodley managed to pull away, but there was no more time.

In the second stage, Covington bet on high kicks. The fighter tried to surprise his opponent three times and managed to unbalance the former champion with jabs and straight shots. After two minutes, Colby started fighting again, but Woodley managed to move away. Tyron continued walking backwards and was pursued by his opponent. In the center of the octagon, the welterweights exchanged punches and kicks and, in the final seconds, Woodley surprised his opponent with a 'superman-punch', but the timer ran to zero.

At the beginning of the third round, the confrontation was interrupted after Tyron caught a poke in the eye from Colby. The confrontation returned with Covington going all out against the former champion. Colby threw combinations of jabs, straight shots and kicks to his rival's body and Woodley tried to respond in kind. Halfway through the round, Covington once again pressed his opponent against the bars and attempted a takedown. Tyron struggled to stay upright. The fight continued without much action, with both exchanging knees to the waist. In the final seconds, Woodley managed to free himself, but there was no more time.

The fourth period began with Covington surprising Woodley with a high kick. The former champion responded with a powerful kick to his opponent's waistline. Colby tried so hard, he succeeded. After almost two minutes, the athlete landed a beautiful takedown on Tyron, who fell into a disadvantageous position. Covington threw blows from top to bottom and the former champion just tried to resist. Colby's attacks opened a cut on Tyron's face, which was bothered by the profuse bleeding. In the final seconds, Woodley remained completely dominated by his opponent, until the round ended.

In the last round, Covington continued to apply pressure and try to trap the former champion against the bars. Colby went back for the legs and managed to get the takedown again. From below, after an attempted transition, Woodley screamed in pain and asked the referee to stop the confrontation. Colby then won by technical knockout.
