The Dutch Stefan struve was the big star of UFC on FUEL 5, an event held this Saturday afternoon (Brasília time), in Nottingham, England. The heavyweight broke the American's unbeaten record Stipe Miocic in the main fight of the show and established himself as one of the main names in the Ultimate category.
The duel between the heavyweights was marked by study and little action, with slight moments of open fighting with Miocic seeking more combat. But halfway through the second round, Struve managed to adjust his game and use his greater wingspan. The Dutchman landed a good sequence of punches and made Miocic feel the blows. A slip made Stipe's situation even worse, as he was hit with a right cross and several uppercuts, which culminated in a technical knockout.
Dan Hardy wins second in a row
In the second most important fight of the night, Englishman Dan Hardy seems to have made peace with his victory. After four consecutive defeats, the welterweight scored his second victory in a series and delighted the local public. Facing Amir Sadollah, Hardy seemed to feel the first movements of the fight, but in the second round, he took the fight to the ground, avoiding his specialty which is striking, and opened up an advantage on points.
In the third round, the Englishman continued his strategy and took down Sadollah, punishing his opponent with elbows on the ground. At the end of the three rounds, Dan Hardy won by unanimous decision from the judges.
“I always wanted to fight in the UFC, but nothing compares to the support I received from the fans today. My tendency is to change, but I held back a little.”
