Strikeforce suffered a huge loss earlier this week. The event scheduled for next Saturday, in Sacramento, was canceled due to the injury of American Gilbert Melendez, who was going to defend the lightweight belt against Pat Healy. The absence of the main athlete on the card led the television network responsible for showing the fights to abandon the broadcast.
“When Showtime informed us that they would no longer broadcast the event, we made the difficult decision to cancel the event. Without the broadcast partnership, we simply couldn't continue with the show. We wish Gilbert Melendez a speedy recovery and will work hard to reschedule the affected fights as quickly as possible,” said Scott Coker, president of Strikeforce.
The cancellation also affects six Brazilians who were scheduled to fight at the event. Adriano Martins, Amanda nunes, Guto Inocente, Jorge Gurgel, Jorge Santigado and Yuri Villefort had their fights postponed.
