“When Masvidal approached me, I accepted immediately. We're equal! We came from nothing and had a long career because we put ourselves in uncomfortable situations in training to be successful in the octagon. I want to see him doing well, making money and he wants to see me back on top. We talked a lot and he said I have to use my head. Really, I was lost, look what happened. He gave me motivation and responsibility. I don't want to disappoint you. About a year ago, Masvidal had told me that there were toxic things in my life, that I needed to delete them. I blacked out and now I can breathe. I’m back and I thank him for it,” Woodley said.

However, Woodley faced a dilemma. 'The Chosen One' is also close to Ben Askren, who was knocked out by Masvidal in an incredible five seconds, but he didn't hide his partnership from him.

“Before Masvidal even reached out to me, I called Askren and said I would train with Masvidal. This would benefit us. I don't know how he feels about it, but I can't make his enemy my enemy. They're not that much of an enemy. Both needed to build the fight and the knockout happened. Everyone suffers from this in sport, unless you're Khabib. We started training and Masvidal had so much fun that he said he would come back and he did. We are just iron sharpening iron!”, he concluded.
