MMA is a relatively new sport that grows every day, but it also has a dark side. There are many cases of athletes with difficult histories and prison sentences. This time, the protagonist of the controversy is Abel Trujillo. According to the North American website 9News, the former UFC fighter, was sentenced to two years probation in a child exploitation case. He was charged with promoting obscenity to a minor, attempted sexual exploitation of a child and sexual exploitation of a child.

As it could not be otherwise, upon learning of the sentence, Dan Hardy, also a former athlete of the organization and current commentator there, was outraged and would like the sentence to be death.

“How do you get parole for some s*** like that? Just hang him and that's it. He should no longer have the right to oxygen,” Hardy posted. Still angry, the Englishman published “you can’t cure this disease!”

In July 2019, Trujillo was accused of sexual exploitation involving minors and spent 18 months in jail. In March 2020, the former wrestler pleaded guilty to lewd behavior. A 16-year-old girl alleged that Abel Trujillo sent her photos of his genitals and videos of him masturbating after approaching her on social media in 2018.

The victim told police he asked Trujillo to stop and blocked him. Six months later, she updated her social media and he began sending more nude photos again. The girl confessed to having talked to the former fighter, because she was a well-known person and she liked receiving attention, but she was uncomfortable going sexual. That's when she went to police, saying she believed Trujillo knew she was underage.

After tracking the former fighter's residence in Colorado, police obtained a search warrant and entered Trujillo's apartment, who admitted to having spoken to several women under the age of 18, knowing that the victim was a minor and having sent and request for nude photos. The police seized Trujillo's phone, several photos with this content were found and confirmed that the former fighter was, in fact, involved due to his body style, tattoos and skin tone.

Abel Trujillo ended his MMA career in 2017, with 15 wins and eight losses. The former lightweight (70kg) competed in 11 fights for the UFC and, in the octagon, became one of the fans' favorite athletes due to his aggressive style. 'Killa's best moment in the sport was his comeback win against Jamie Varner, which earned him knockout and fight of the night bonuses.
