After debuting in the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg.) with a victory over Peter Munhoz, Frankie Edgar won a prominent place in the new category. Even though he reached the top 5 after his first performance, the North American intends to continue testing himself against big names in the group and suggested a confrontation against a legend of the division.

“An older guy (who I would like to face) and a legend is Dominick Cruz. A lot of people are talking about it, so I'm definitely interested. The belt is obviously my goal, where my focus is, but it doesn't have to be immediate. I want to fight some legendary fights too”, said Frankie, in an interview with Bruce Buffer on the 'It's Time' podcast.

Even with the objective set in his head, Edgar understands that a duel against Cruz, who was bantamweight champion between 2010 and 2016, would be extremely challenging. Even though he is far from his peak, Dominick, according to Frankie, is still capable of causing great difficulties.

“It would be tough. You chase him, he's good at it and you don't want him chasing you. So, I think you have to mix up the actions and try to play a game of cat and mouse with him”, he concluded.

While Edgar is coming off a great result on his record, Cruz suffered his second consecutive defeat in May of this year. On that occasion, the veteran agreed to face the then champion Henry Cejudo in an attempt to regain his old belt. Dominick, however, ended up defeated by knockout in the second round.
