According to 'Combate', Stephens chose not to take on the challenge against Barboza following the idea that he might have difficulty making the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg), as he recently resumed his training routine. In this way, it was up to Ultimate to look for a new rival for the Brazilian, who is coming off a contested defeat to Dan Ige, in May of this year.

With a negative result in his last appearance, Edson is experiencing the worst moment in his career since his professional debut in MMA. There are three consecutive defeats and five in their recent record. The Friburguense's last victory came in December 2018, when he beat Dan Hooker by knockout.

While Barboza seeks to recover, Sodiq has been swimming in Ultimate. The North American hasn't known what it's like to lose since he debuted in the UFC. So far, there are four presentations with undisputed victories. The recent results gave Yusuff 11th position in the ranking dominated by Alexander Volkanovsky.
