the defeat of Sean O'Malley for Marlon Vera last Saturday (15), at UFC 252, was a surprise for many MMA fans. Beaten by knockout in the first round, the performance of the promising bantamweight (up to 61,2kg.) did not go unnoticed and generated criticism from the former division champion, Henry Cejudo, who used social media to mock the result.

“I faced DJ (Demetrious Johnson) and Marlon (Moraes) 'without legs'. These attacks broke his nails and he was unable to compete,” criticized Cejudo, who showed a video of a possible injury suffered during his fight against Johnson in August 2018.

As 25 years old and undefeated in his career with 12 fights – before UFC 252 –, O'Malley was treated like a jewel to be polished by the organization. The bet on the athlete was so big that the Ultimate management promoted the bantamweight to a prominent place on one of the biggest cards of the year, even taking on the position of junior gypsy e Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the co-main fight of the show.

Favorite in the clash against Vera, Sean saw his unbeaten record put at risk after suffering a possible ankle injury suffered when he made a false step into the Octagon in the first round. Unable to support himself firmly on the ground, O'Malley ended up being easy prey for Marlon, who took advantage of the moment and settled the score with a knockout in the opening minutes.

After the clash, without giving details about the injury, Sean summed up his feelings in a post on social media using just one word: 'Humiliated'.
