Daniel Cormier ended his career in UFC 252 with a bitter taste. He lost the trilogy to Stipe Miocic and did not regain the heavyweight belt (up to 120.3 kg.). Furthermore, Cormier ended the fight with no vision in his left eye, which was completely closed due to an illegal finger strike from his rival (see what the fighter's eye looked like in the strong image below).

In the third round, Miocic, with an open hand, pushed Cormier's face. The champion's fingers went into the challenger's eye, who complained to the referee. In turn, the mediator claimed that he saw the blow with his fist closed, which is legal (see image below).
At the end of the fight, Cormier gave an interview saying that he couldn't see out of his left eye. In the photo and video below, you can see that the iris of his eye was clearly injured.
“I told (referee) Marc (Goddard) he poked me, but he said it was a punch. But then, after the fight he said, 'Yes, I saw it on the replay.' I just can’t see out of my left eye,” complained the now former fighter.
