The death of Khabib's father and mentor, Abudlmanap Nurmagomedov, in early July was an incalculable tragedy for the MMA world. What happened, however, could bring an old dream of the coach out of the drawer: the super fight between the linear lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) against the legendary Georges St Pierre. In an interview with 'ESPN', Dana White spoke about the possibility and that, out of respect for the coach's memory, the confrontation could, finally, go ahead.

"Clear. It's the last fight of his (Khabib's) career. The guys were incredible. They have been great for the company, for the sport and I like the Khabib Nurmagomedov. I would do anything he wanted”, said the 'boss'.

Abdulmanap's wish, according to Ali Abdelaziz, was for his son to retire with 30 fights on his professional MMA record. The Russian would defend his belt against Justin gaethje, which will happen on October 24th, at UFC 255, and would end his career in the sport against Georges.

Khabib has never hidden his desire to test himself against what, for many, is the best MMA fighter of all time. Georges, who hasn't played since 2017, also welcomes the possibility, but both clashed with the UFC board's desire to promote the confrontation.

The lightweight champion's motivation now is to keep the legacy left by his father alive and his early death could accelerate the process towards fulfilling the desire of one of the most renowned coaches in the history of MMA in Russia.
