Cormier believes he will fight for the UFC belt if he beats Frank Mir

Daniel Cormier dominates Josh Barnett and wins Strikeforce GP

the american Daniel Cormier entered the Strikeforce heavyweight GP as an underdog, but left the tournament as champion after defeating favorites like the Brazilian Antonio Pezão, in the semifinal, and veteran Josh Barnett in the big decision. Now, scheduled to face the former UFC champion, Frank mir, in the fight for the Strikeforce belt, Cormier is already aiming for higher goals.

Daniel stated that if Mir wins, he will already be accredited to compete for another title: the UFC heavyweight title.

“I think if I can get past Frank, my record will speak for itself. I don't know what they (UFC organization) are thinking, but if you take into consideration the guys I've faced, and what I've been doing since I joined Strikeforce, I think if I can get past Frank, it will qualify me to fight for the title, just like any other fighter”, said Cormier.

The heavyweight also analyzed other names who left Strikeforce for the UFC and had the chance to fight for the UFC belt directly, or by just fighting one fight before.

PUBLICITY:

“All the guys who came to the UFC as champions quickly gained the opportunity to fight for the title. Jake Shields he only had to do one fight before fighting for the title against GSP, alistair overeem fought with Brock Lesnar to get the title shot before testing positive for anti-doping, and Nick Diaz had an immediate title shot. I think if they follow the path they have taken in other situations like mine, and if I beat Frank, I should be able to fight for the title as soon as I get there”, concluded Cormier.
