Pawel Nastula could sign with UFC

Olympic judo champion Pawel Nastula declared this week that negotiations with Zuffa are advanced, according to the website The Fight Network. The Pole, who hasn't fought for over a year, denied that he had retired from MMA.

“Things are moving forward, but I wouldn't want to fight at the end of the year,” said Nastula. “I don’t think we won’t reach an agreement, I’m handling things in a very calm way.”

Nastula's contract, which was linked to Pride, was “standstill” after the UFC acquired the event.

“It’s a very complicated problem,” he said, “but I will soon know the date of my return, and you will all know it too.”

Nastula's last fight was in October 2006, when he was submitted by Josh Barnett at Pride 32. Nastula, however, was caught in a drug test and was suspended for 9 months and also paid a fine to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
