What few know is that days before the confrontation, the Rio native suffered a serious injury to his face, but the 'Phenomenon' did not leave the fight. In the confrontation, Belfort ended up having one of the most notable knockouts of that year. The Brazilian, who had been defeated by Jon Jones a few months ago, in contention for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg.), he returned to his category and began a streak of three consecutive victories, which would lead him to compete for the middleweight title (up to 83,9kg.).
Known for his strong fists and aggressiveness in confrontations, Vitor needed two rounds to settle the score against Michael, who would become division champion three years later.
In 26 victories as a professional in MMA, Belfort maintains the mark of 18 knockouts. Today, at 43 years old, the athlete is training to return to the sport after more than two years away. The fighter has an agreement to face Alain Ngalane for ONE FC. The confrontation, however, does not yet have a defined date and location.
