Gilbert Durinho announces negative test for COVID-19 and celebrates return to training

Recovered from illness, Brazilian is excited about returning to his routine and confirms conversation with Dana White to fight for welterweight belt

After a major blow to his career, when he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and removed from the welterweight (up to 77kg) belt fight against Kamaru Usman, which would take place on July 11th, Gilbert Durinho has reasons to celebrate. After self-quarantine to treat the illness, the Brazilian released a new test, proving that he has recovered and ready to resume his routine.

In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', Gilbert spoke with excitement about his current health condition. The fighter is then ready to return to training.

“I am very happy with the test results after being quarantined for two weeks at home. I’m grateful to be able to return to my regular routine,” said the Brazilian.

After watching Jorge masvidal take your place in UFC 251 and be dominated by the current champion, Kamaru Usman, Durinho confirmed that he had already spoken with the organization's president, Dana White, and secured his position as the next challenger.

“It was a hard pill to swallow (the disease), but I believe God has a plan for me. I just talked to Dana White on Sunday and he said I'm next. He wants to watch this fight: Durinho x Usman. That’s the next one,” Gilbert said in an interview with 'What the Heck'.

Current number one in the welterweight division, the Brazilian has not played since May of this year, when he unquestionably defeated the former champion of the division, Tyron woodley. The triumph over the North American gave Durinho the status of main challenger to Usman's title.
