Responsible for suffering the fastest knockout in the history of Ultimate, in July last year, Ben Askren asked for credit for the current success of Jorge masvidal in the UFC. Defeated in just five seconds by his rival, the former fighter asked for credit for the meteoric rise of 'Jesus das Ruas', who will compete for the welterweight title (up to 77kg.) this Saturday (11).

“I put the spotlight on him. His followers (on social media) increased five times. I let it shine, unfortunately. I thought I would break it. He says authentic things and people love that. When he says it was 'super necessary' to punch me when I was unconscious, I see him as an asshole. It was unnecessary, but he disagrees,” Askren said in an interview with 'ESPN'.
When Ben and Jorge were set on a collision course last year, the build-up to the showdown ended up being too big. The fighters provoked each other through the media and there was a lot of expectation for Askren's performance, who had been hired by Ultimate recently and was promising for a future fight for the welterweight title.
The confrontation itself practically did not happen. In the first second, Jorge attacked Ben and landed a knee of rare happiness, which exploded into Askren's face after the athlete attempted a takedown. Ben was knocked out immediately, giving Masvidal a historic victory.
After the setback, Askren tried to recover in the confrontation against Demian Maia, in October, but ended up losing again. The defeat against the Brazilian declared the American's retirement from MMA.
