The fight will mark Marreta's return to the Octagon more than a year after recovering from knee injuries resulting from his title fight against Jones, which took place in July last year. At the time, the athlete from Cidade de Deus (RJ) faced one of the biggest challenges of the North American's career, as he emerged victorious in the judges' split decision.

While Thiago has not performed for almost 12 months, Glover remained active within the organization and made four appearances between January 2019 and May this year, when he overcame Anthony Smith by knockout in a confrontation marked by the aggressiveness of the Minas Gerais native. After brutalizing the North American, Teixeira reached the mark of four consecutive victories, a feat that made him regain his place among the top five in the category.

In a recent interview with the YouTube channel do SUPER FIGHTS, the miner from Sobrália (MG) had already reinforced his respect for Marreta, but informed that he did not see any problems in facing his compatriot, as both share the dream of returning to compete for the division's belt.

“No (there would be a problem). O Thiago Marreta He's a good guy. I'm rooting for the guy a lot, except if he fights me. Of course. I rooted for him against Jon Jones (July 2019), I even thought he won the fight”, said Teixeira at the time.

More than ever, the confrontation between the Brazilians is close to getting off the ground and the winner of the confrontation puts themselves in excellent condition to challenge the champion in their next challenge.

Imbroglio with champion

Since his contested victory over Dominick reyes, in February, Jon Jones entered into a kind of financial war with Ultimate. Considered the best athlete in the history of the category, the North American was irritated with the organization's management after being asked for a super fight against Francis Ngannou denied by the company.

PUBLICITY:

UFC president Dana White made it public that 'Bones' had asked for US$30 million (around R$160 million) for the fight. The 'big boss' statement angered the champion, who is threatening to abandon his belt and has already stated that he has no plans to return to the octagon.

In his latest talks about Ultimate, Jon continues to ask for greater appreciation for his fights and has become a kind of spokesperson for lesser-known athletes. The North American asks for better payments for his co-workers who, according to him, are often unable to support themselves.
