Durinho rebuts Masvidal and says he is satisfied with the payment to face Usman

The tug of war between Jorge masvidal and Ultimate is far from over. After publicly declaring war on the organization for better payments, the North American criticized the scholarship that will be received by Gilbert Durinho to face Kamaru Usman for the welterweight belt (up to 77kg.), on July 11th. The Brazilian, however, countered 'Jesus das Ruas' and said he was satisfied with the salary to work in the UFC 251.

“They offered me a considerable amount of money, more than a lot of guys who fight for the belt. I'm happy with my situation, but I'm putting myself in a position to get these fights”, said Durinho in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

Without causing controversy, Gilbert stated, however, that he understands Masvidal's situation, who frequently questions Ultimate's treatment of his values. The Brazilian, however, stated that the fighter must fulfill what is established in the contract.

“I understand Masvidal’s side. He wants more money. But I think it all depends on agency. If you just signed a contract, how are you going to ask for a new agreement? Does not make sense. I think everything is in the negotiations”, explained the Niteroi native.

Durinho was not the first option for the confrontation against the current champion of the category. Since the end of 2019, Dana White, president of Ultimate, has made no secret of his desire for Usman's opponent to be Jorge. The North American, however, did not accept the values ​​proposed by the company and ended up leaving the challenger status.

Regarding the clash between Durinho and Kamaru, Masvidal also gave his opinion. The owner of the UFC's 'Most Thick' belt suggested that the Brazilian accepted the challenge for a low price.

“They offered me the fight and after I said no, they offered it to other fighters until they got to Gilbert. He wasn't the first option. He is not known. I’m not belittling his abilities, but he’s not a famous guy,” Jorge said on his YouTube channel.

Responsible for heading up one of the most attractive cards in recent years, Durinho reinforced that he is satisfied with the agreement to face Usman. This will be the Brazilian's first title fight in Ultimate.

“I'm certainly happy. They paid me well. (…) I have a new contract, more money and, being champion, I will have everything a champion has”, he concluded.
