Khabib updates on his father's health status: 'Condition is still serious'

Linear lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) of the UFC, Khabib Nurmagomedov updated on the health status of his father, Abdulmanap, who has been hospitalized in Russia since the end of April. Mentor of the 'Águia', the coach underwent intensive treatment in the ICU after contracting Covid-19 and suspected pneumonia.

“His condition is still serious. He is still in intensive care. The coronavirus has already been overcome, but the virus has had consequences for your kidneys and your heart. There is no longer anything to worry about about the virus, just its other consequences”, said the fighter in an interview with 'RT Sport'.

Although he admits that Abdulmanap has won the battle against Covid-19, Khabib stated that his father will go through a long period of recovery from the consequences that may affect him in the future. The athlete, however, understands that the mentor is under the care of excellent specialists and that it will be a matter of time before he recovers.

“These are some of the best doctors in the world. I have no worries thanks to them. On this side, everything is fine. It takes time, because the consequences are very difficult, and the rehabilitation period will be long and difficult”, said the champion.

The biggest lightweight star in Ultimate today, the Russian said he visits his father frequently. Abdulmanap, however, is weakened and is unable to communicate with words so far.

“I visit him, he recognizes me, but there is no communication because he is connected to devices. Every day they let me in, I spend half an hour, holding his hand. When I ask: 'Dad, do you recognize me?', he gestures to answer me”, he concluded.
