At a great stage in his career, Gilbert Durinho is close to making history for Brazil. The athlete will face Kamaru Usman on July 11 for the UFC welterweight (up to 77kg) belt against Kamaru Usman. Even facing a high-level opponent, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.), Rafael dos Anjos, believes that his compatriot will overcome the Nigerian in the main fight of the UFC 251.

“I think he (Durinho) is very motivated. I think that since he and Kamaru have trained together for a long time in the past, he has a great chance. I'm going to put my money on Gilbert, because I think he's in his prime. He has a chance to fight for the belt and he's going with everything,” said Dos Anjos, in an interview with 'MMA Junkie'.
Despite knowing the welterweight division well, a category in which he has worked since 2017, and having already faced the current champion in 2018, Rafael places his bets on his compatriot having known him since childhood.
“I've known Gilbert since he was in first grade. I was his older brother's best friend. We were in second grade. I've known him and his brothers for many years and he's an amazing guy. I like him a lot”, concluded Dos Anjos.
Durinho's meteoric rise to welterweight status is a pleasant surprise for Brazilian fans. The athlete returned to the division in August last year and, in just four appearances, achieved convincing and imposing victories, which put him in a position to challenge the current champion.
Usman has not played since the victory over Colby covington in the main fight of UFC 245, in December last year. On that occasion, the Nigerian made his first title defense.
