Rafael dos Anjos x Conor McGregor, the fight that almost happened
The fight between Rafael dos Anjos e Conor McGregor came close to happening on two occasions. In the first of them, in March 2016, the Brazilian would defend his lightweight belt against the Irishman. However, he suffered a broken foot 15 days before the fight. RDA was replaced by Nate diaz, who ended up defeating Conor in the welterweight division.
The second clash was scheduled for 2018, when dos Anjos moved up to the welterweight category and would fight for the interim belt against McGregor. The Irishman accepted the duel, but got involved in a fight backstage at UFC 223 he was arrested and removed from the duel. In his place, he was chosen Colby covington, who ended up beating RDA at UFC 225 in June.
