Rodrigo Minotauro and Josh Barnett were, at the beginning of the last decade, two of the biggest heavyweights in MMA. The fighters have already faced each other on two occasions in Pride, the now defunct Japanese event, with one victory for each side. However, the North American still has the desire for a bully against the Brazilian.
After the UFC “borrowed” Frank mir to face Daniel Cormier at Strikeforce in October, Barnett would like Minotauro to also be brought into the organization to close the trilogy between them.
“That’s a fight I would love. I don't see that happening, especially now that he needs to have his plate removed (Minotauro had surgery on his arm in December). But please bring it”, asked Barnett, who continued to provoke the Brazilian. “I want to put a nail in the coffin of this trilogy”, added the heavyweight.
Minotauro and Barnett faced each other twice in 2006. At Pride FC – Final Conflite Absolute, on September 10, the American won in a split decision from the judges.
In the rematch, which took place at the traditional Pride Shockwave 2006 – an event held during New Year's Eve in Japan – the Brazilian defeated Josh, also via unanimous decision by the judges.
