Video: Vicente Luque talks about his opponent's disfigured face in his last performance: 'It's part of it'

The Brazilian has been gaining more and more fans in MMA due to his aggressive way of presenting himself inside the Octagon

Last Saturday (9), the Brazilian Vincent Luque was responsible for starring in one of the most shocking moments of the UFC Smith x Teixeira, held in Jacksonville (USA). The athlete ended up leaving his rival, Niko Price, disfigured in the confrontation after heavy blows., which forced the referee to interrupt the confrontation and declare a technical knockout in the third round. In an interview with journalist Laerte Viana, exclusively for the SUPER FIGHTS, Luque spoke about the episode and outlined plans for the future in the organization.

“At the time of the fight, it doesn't bother me (seeing the condition of the opponent's face). If the fight continued, I would continue trying for a knockout or a submission to seize the moment. When the fight ends, I definitely don't feel good. I saw his face and I was worried. I even talked to him and thanked him for the fight. It's not what we want. We don't want the guy to get hurt, but it happens. It's part of it. I have to do my job”, said the Brazilian.

Having been working for Ultimate for almost five years, Vicente has, throughout his presentations, shown that he is a strong candidate for a title shot in the future. With 14 commitments for the organization, Vicente spoke about a historic milestone that he intends to achieve within the welterweight division: the highest number of victories by interruptions. The Brazilian currently occupies third place, with 10, three less than first place, Matt Brown.

“This shows the work I have been doing. I'm not just here to be part of the UFC, but I want to be champion, I want to one day be recognized as one of the legends that passed through the UFC. I think being able to have this kind of record – today I'm third – those are the marks I need to go after. Today, people know: 'when Vicente is going to fight, I want to see this fight, because I know that, no matter who is on the other side, the fight will be exciting”, said Luque.

Acting forcefully and always wanting to prevent the results of the clashes from reaching the judges' decision, the Brazilian claims that he has built his image so that he does not need to use the famous 'trashtalk'. For Vicente, the objective is to have a solid career in MMA without having to resort to resources that, at times, are frowned upon by fans.

“(My aggressiveness) helps me, because I'm not the type of guy who's going to 'sell the fight' by talking bad about my opponent. I respect everyone, but I can 'sell fights' through my style”, he concluded.

At 28 years old, Luque currently occupies 13th place in the welterweight rankings. The triumph over Niko Price put the Brazilian back on the path to victory, as the athlete had been beaten by Stephen Tompson in November last year, interrupting a streak of six consecutive victories.
