The great victory of Justin gaethje about Tony Ferguson this Saturday (9), at UFC 249, in Jacksonville (USA) does not seem to have shaken the psychology of the new interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg). After beating the 'Bogeyman', the athlete said that he does not consider himself number one in the world and that he will wait for the confrontation against Khabib Nurmagomedov to celebrate your status.

“I feel incredible, but this is the mindset I have to have to face my real challenge, which is Khabib. I can’t consider myself the champion, because I’m not and Khabib is still there,” Justin said at a press conference after this weekend’s show.

This is not the first time that Gaethje has paid respect to the division's current lineal champion. Last year, after defeating Donald Cerrone, UFC Vancouver, the North American even asked for a title fight against the Russian and even stated that he considers the 'Eagle' a better fighter. The idea, however, is to test yourself against an Ultimate icon.

Against Tony, in addition to ending his rival's 12-game winning streak, Justin also won two bonuses from the organization. The athlete received US$100 thousand (approximately R$570 thousand) for the 'Fight' and 'Performance of the Night'.

There are still no concrete plans on when Khabib will fight again. Last week, the Russian commented on the possibility of returning in July, if the coronavirus pandemic situation is under control.
