Former UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg), Fabricio Werdum is close to returning to the octagon after two years away from the sport. After serving a doping suspension, the 42-year-old fighter has not yet decided on his future in the sport. With two more fights left in his contract with the UFC, the athlete should soon decide what his fate will be. In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', 'Vai Cavalo' spoke about the subject.

“My goal now is to fight this fight (against alexey oleynik, this Saturday), and then I have one more in my contract. I don't know if I'll renew my contract. I don't have that decision 100% in my career. I can renew for a few more fights so I can finish my career, or retire after these two and continue just as a commentator. I have a few options in my head. My focus is on this fight and then we’ll see what happens”, said the Brazilian.

Although he has alternatives outside the octagon, Fabrício admits that his decision will be made together with his family. The athlete, however, confesses that, depending on his wife, retirement is close.

“I have to talk to my family and wife. We make decisions together. She (wife) wants me to stop after these two (fights). She thinks it's good now. It will depend on the victories. The way the fights will happen. let’s see,” she said.

Without fighting since March 2018, the former heavyweight champion stated that he wants to fight in the shortest possible time. Werdum's idea is to make up for lost time as soon as possible.

“If I can fight again on the 13th or 16th, I will do it. Let's make up for lost time. Let’s see if I can do that”, he concluded.

This weekend, the Brazilian will complete his 33rd fight as a professional in MMA. The athlete today has 28 wins, eight losses and one draw.
