Paulo borrachinha is in line to challenge Israel adesanya in the fight for the UFC middleweight belt (up to 83.9 kg.). But the Brazilian is already looking further ahead. The athlete from Minas Gerais revealed that he wants to test himself in the light heavyweight division (up to 93.1 kg.) after facing the Nigerian and becoming the first Brazilian man to hold two UFC titles in different categories.

In an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie, Borrachinha revealed his plans for his career. He talked about the difficulty he has in breaking the limit of the middleweight division and his interest in moving up a category to face Jon Jones, current light heavyweight champion.

“I believe I can win two belts, middleweight and light heavyweight. I believe this. I'm big, it's a little difficult to weigh 84 (kilos), so I think I can take two belts for my country after my next fight. My plan is to move up to light heavyweight soon, quickly after my next fight… I'm not afraid of fighting big guys,” he revealed.

Borrachinha also didn't miss the opportunity to attack Isarael Adesanya, his next rival. The Brazilian and the Nigerian have been exchanging barbs since the Minas Gerais native secured his chance at the title, in August 2019.

“Skinny Adesanya challenged the Jon Jones, but when he accepted, he said: 'No, I need two years to train'. No one can ask for something and when his challenge is accepted, he says: 'No, not now'. This is shameful. I won't be like that. I'm ready, if I want to fight at light heavyweight now, I can do it. So, I believe that after this fight, I will take the next step, to the next shot,” he concluded.

Borrachinha is undefeated in MMA with a professional record of 13 wins in 13 fights, five of which were in the UFC. The duel between the Brazilian and Adesnya does not yet have a date to take place, but there is speculation that it could be held in July this year.
