In February of this year, Deiveson Figueiredo could have become the new UFC flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg). The athlete, however, despite achieving victory in the challenge against Joseph Benavidez, did not take the belt because he failed to make the weight cut for his fight in UFC Norfolk. Thinking about the rematch, the Brazilian is now aiming for a new triumph over his last opponent and suggested the month for the new dispute to take place.

“Benavidez deserves the rematch, especially for fighting me knowing I was overweight. We're going to face each other again, 'get rid of this stubbornness', because he thinks he's beating me. If I knocked him out in the second round, now I'm going to finish him in the first. I want to break this thing about it never being finished. The goal now is to finish. The moment it gets messed up, I'll catch it,” said the Brazilian in an interview with 'Combate'.

After failing to meet the scales, Deiveson ended up being heavily criticized by fans, members of the press and even UFC president, Dana White. At the time, the 'boss' ended up calling the athlete's attitude unprofessional, as it was a fight for the division's linear belt. After the incident, Figueiredo assured that there will be no new disappointments.

“A lot of people comment that I became overweight. Now, just hit and put an end to this excuse. I'm going to finish beautifully so that there won't be a third fight. I'm going to take his head off, either with a rear-naked choke or some other choke”, concluded the athlete, who confirmed to the reporter his desire to fight in July.

Faced with a scenario of uncertainty, due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), it is not yet possible to say when Joesph and Deiveson will be able to exchange forces again. However, the meeting between the Brazilian and the North American should take place later this year (if the UFC resumes activities), since, after the victory of the Brazilian from Pará, the flyweight category remained without a champion.
