Since announcing that he would move to the bantamweight division, Frankie Edgar has not yet had the opportunity to fight in the new category. The North American, however, already has an idea of who he would like to face in his first challenge. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), suggested a confrontation against aljamain sterling, currently number two in the ranking.

“Aljamain is saying no one wants to fight him. This is the guy we were supposed to fight on this last card, in November. That was a possibility, and it never happened. I believe he had to have surgery. So, that would make sense to me: fight Aljamain in June. I don’t know what his plans are or what he has planned, but I think someone along those lines would be ideal,” said the American.

Sterling, however, is not Frankie's first choice. Last week, informed that José Aldo is unable to compete for the division belt against Henry Cejudo, Edgar tried to challenge the champion, but ended up being overtaken by Dominick Cruz.

“He (Dominick) is probably the most dominant bantamweight to date in the UFC. Based on what he's done in his career, I don't see any problem with him competing for the title. I know other guys would probably like it to be them, but under the circumstances, I wonder how many people would actually accept this fight anyway.”

Even proposing a fight against Aljamain, Frankie, like all Ultimate fighters, is uncertain about when the organization will resume its activities. Due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the company was forced to postpone shows and is hostage to the preventive measures adopted by the United States government and other countries.

Fatal change? Makhachev ignores warning and could end tragically at welterweight!
