“Just reaching out to let everyone know I love them so much. I hope you are keeping your heads up. You owe this to yourselves. This world can be a very difficult place and sometimes presents us with very difficult struggles. But we must have faith, be positive and remember that attitude is everything. No one will feel sorry for us right now. We owe it to each of us not to feel sorry for ourselves and to do everything we can, every day, to smile. We have to do our part. And now our part is to stay at home, happy and positive. Keep a positive mindset, keep a positive outlook, and I promise you we will get through this,” said the UFC light heavyweight champion.
Known for his strong personality and provocative style, Conor did not shy away from his responsibility to be an opinion leader and also sent a message of awareness to his followers. The Irishman spoke about the reduction in the number of cases in his country, but maintained the stance of signaling that the moment is still worrying and preventive measures must still be maintained.
“A quick reminder to remain vigilant with our quarantine efforts. We have seen a drop in the last three days in the number of infected people. From 191 cases on Thursday 19th March (our hardest day to date) to a slight decrease to 126 the following day, Friday 20th March. As of today, Saturday, March 21st, we have had a total number of 102 new cases. These numbers are encouraging each day, but we are still above 100 new cases per day. As today is Saturday, the height of our weekend, coupled with the fact that we have been receiving lower numbers each day, we will all be tempted to get out and get back to living our normal lives again. But now is the time to remain more vigilant. Stay alert and stay home. Otherwise, we run the risk of spinning these numbers in circles until they reach a peak that we cannot contain. Hang in there, Ireland. We will make it, together and united! God bless everyone around the world fighting this virus. We fight side by side. Teamwork makes the dream work”, wrote the 'Notório'.
Both Jones and McGregor began acting in 2020, before the disease that scares the world took over everyday life. They both won in their commitments. Conor participated in the first Ultimate event of the year, when he returned to action and beat Donald Cerrone, in January, after more than a year away from the octagon.
In February, Jones defended his belt once again, when he defeated Dominick reyes in the main fight of UFC 247.
