“The health and safety of everyone involved has, and will continue to have, our top priority as we move forward. After carefully monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, Bellator has chosen to postpone tonight's 'Bellator 241' event at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.”
In a new publication, Coker took the opportunity to apologize to the athletes, who had already made weight and were ready to exchange forces on the card that would start at 20pm, in the United States. Scott also remembered the fans, to whom he also paid respect.
“We would like to apologize to our athletes and fans, as well as our broadcast partner DAZN, but we feel that this is the best decision to be made at this time”, he concluded.
Before making the decision, however, the organization's board of directors had already confirmed that the show would take place behind closed doors, in order to avoid public gatherings, thus reducing the risks of any possible contamination. Ultimately, the company chose to take the most drastic measure, postponing the fights.
The Bellator 241 card would feature two fights from the quarterfinals of the featherweight GP (up to 65,7kg), as well as a title fight in the main fight, in which the Brazilian Patrick Pitbull he would make his second defense of the category title.
There is still no forecast for when the card will be rescheduled. The idea is to wait for a reduction in the incidence of cases of the disease that has affected many victims around the world.
