Although recovering from injury, Paulo borrachinha is close to realizing his dream of fighting for the UFC middleweight (up to 83,9kg) belt. Considered by many to be one of the most dangerous athletes in the category, the Brazilian received confirmation that he will fight for the title against the winner among Israel adesanya e Yoel romero, who exchange forces this Saturday (7), at UFC 248, in Las Vegas. The information came from Dana White, president of the company, in conversation with journalists to promote this weekend's show.

“He will be next. If he hadn't gotten hurt, this fight would be happening right now. But he got hurt, I respect that and I respect the fact that he wants to fight. 'I'm ready, I'm ready!'. No, you're not. You are not a doctor. He went to some guy who's a friend of his or something who said he's 'ok', but that's not how it works. I don't want to pressure him into doing this and then end up getting hurt again. Give it time. You will fight this fight, it will happen. Don't worry about that. Everything is alright. Let's give him this more time, he gets better from the injury, and then he can start making those videos of him training and all those other crazy things that he probably shouldn't be doing right now. But he's a great athlete too. I just don’t want to see him get hurt again,” White said.

At the end of last year, Paulo confirmed that he suffered an injury to his biceps and needed to undergo surgery at the site. Although the Minas Gerais native stated that he would recover before the first half of 2020, the company and Adesanya chose not to wait for the middleweight to recover and scheduled the Nigerian's first title defense against Yoel romero, who was defeated by Borrachinha in his last appearance.

Recently, the Brazilian confirmed, in an interview with 'MMA Fighting', that he will be present in Las Vegas to watch Israel's performance against its latest 'victim' from the front row. A self-confessed rival of the champion, Paulo and Adesanya have been exchanging barbs for some time through social networks and the media, promoting the confrontation that is awaited by many sports fans.
