The former heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg.), Daniel Cormier, remains adamant about returning to the octagon for a confrontation other than a rematch against Stipe Miocic. According to Dana White, president of the company, DC rejected fights with other athletes and signaled that the North American could withdraw from the sport if there is no confirmation of the trilogy. The information was disclosed in an interview with ‘ESPN MMA’.

"He (Stipe Miocic) is injured. When he recovers, we will fight. I offered him (Daniel Cormier) other fights. I don't want him to retire. I don't think he should do that. You know me. Normally, I suggest athletes retire,” said Dana.

Known for his high level of competitiveness, Cormier did not take his last defeat well. At the time, in a fight that took place in August last year, the then champion dominated the fight until he was surprised by a knockout in the fourth round. The setback marked the end of Daniel's reign at heavyweight.

“He thinks the fight against Stipe is the fight he can get up in. I can't force him to face someone else. He needs this. I would like to make this fight happen. Let’s see what happens”, concluded Dana.

Daniel won the heavyweight title in July 2018. As champion, the athlete even defended his position on one occasion, when he crashed Derrick Lewis in the main fight of UFC 230. After having plans to hold a superfight against the WWE (wrestling) star frustrated Brock Lesnar, DC decided to give Miocic the long-awaited rematch, just over a year after defeating the former title holder.

Stipe is currently recovering from an eye injury suffered in the fight against Cormier. So far, there is no expected return, but the athlete has been reticent when it comes to giving DC an immediate rematch.
