Although fans of Thiago Marreta are counting down the minutes until they see the Brazilian back in the octagon, the fighter says he is in no rush to return to fighting. Recovering from two serious knee injuries, the fighter from Cidade de Deus (RJ) prefers not to set a date to be seen back in action, however, in an interview with 'Ag.Fight', he made a request to Ultimate.

“It's still too early to talk about a comeback and who I'll fight against. Until I return, a lot will happen. My goal is to come back and see what the UFC has to offer me. I don't think they're going to give me a title shot right away, so I hope to face a top 5 fighter, someone who's coming from a good moment, who I haven't beaten yet, and that a victory qualifies me to fight for the title again", said the Brazilian.

Thiago became known worldwide in MMA after providing the Jon Jones what, for many, was the biggest fight of the light heavyweight champion's (up to 93kg) career. Undisputed in Ultimate, the North American needed five rounds to beat the Brazilian and emerged victorious in the duel with a majority decision by the judges.

Even with the setback, the Brazilian came out of the confrontation with morale. Currently, Marreta occupies the first position in the category's ranking and hopes to be 100% ready to continue his career.

The title, which was once close to his hands, will be put on the line again next Saturday (8), when 'Bones' will return to the octagon and face the undefeated Dominick reyes. Regarding the confrontation, the Brazilian ended up betting his chips on his last tormentor.

“I think the Jon Jones will keep that belt. O Dominick reyes He is an excellent athlete, he is in a good phase, but I believe that Jones can finish this fight before the five rounds,” concluded Thiago.

  1. Nelson Antonio said:

According to the article, Jones' victory over Marreta was by majority decision, but it was a split decision (48-47, 47-48 and 48-47). According to the wiki: a split decision is different from a majority decision. A majority decision occurs when two judges choose the same fighter as the winner, and the third judge scores a draw. The margin of victory is greater in the majority decision. A split decision is the closest possible result for a fight where there is a winner and a loser.
