With each statement given, the scenario is built for Ultimate to confirm Jorge masvidal as the next challenger for the welterweight title (under 77kg.), which belongs to Kamaru Usman. In the last episode of the 'soap opera', the athletes met backstage at an NFL (National Football League) event, exchanged provocations and had to be separated to avoid coming to blows. In the images, Usman appears more excited, provoking the 'bad boy' and asking him to do something, in the sense of taking some action. The American, however, responded ironically to Kamaru's advances, smiling and even blowing the champion a kiss.
Owner of the belt, the Nigerian hasn't fought since December last year, when he fought a real battle with his great rival, Colby covington. On that occasion, Usman silenced his opponent and managed to emerge victorious in his first title defense with a devastating knockout over his opponent.
Jorge also had a year to celebrate in 2019. With three elite performances, the North American managed to achieve the prestige in MMA that he had dreamed of for years. The athlete was responsible for achieving the fastest knockout in the company's history, when he defeated Ben Askren in just five seconds, defeating one of the company's bids for the category belt.
The lightning knockout gave Masvidal the opportunity to headline a numbered card and compete against Nate diaz a symbolic title created by the company especially for the UFC 244, held in November. Jorge won the fight and, today, holds the 'Toughest' belt in the sport.
So far, there is still no confirmation whether Kamaru and Masvidal will, in fact, meet in their next commitment. However, both the board and the athletes have already signaled that they would like to fight.
