The former heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg.), junior gypsy, suffered a bitter defeat at UFC Raleigh, held last Saturday (25), when he was knocked out by Curtis blaydes. The athlete was trying to recover from the setback suffered to Francis Ngannou, in June last year, but ended up adding the second negative result in a row. The athlete admitted to having made a strategic error and, in an interview with 'Combate', spoke about his expectations for the future.

“I trained a lot on takedown defense, I came in focused on that and forgot about attacking. I wasn't attacking, letting him feel comfortable, giving him more space, more than I should have, and even though I defended every takedown attempt, I forgot the main part, my strength, which is attacking. A mess of mine that had a high price”, said the Santa Catarina native.

Cigano, however, doesn't want to wait too long to get back into action. According to the athlete, he wants to return to the octagon as quickly as possible to try to get back on the path to victory.

“For me, I’ll be back as soon as possible. I think the best remedy for a result like this is to close the next fight soon to continue working and correct mistakes, which, in defeats, of course, become more evident and you end up learning better. Not that I wanted to lose, quite the opposite, but I hope this serves as another lesson so I can grow as an athlete. I was talking to my team, we haven't decided what to do yet, let's wait, take it easy in the next few days, but, if it's up to me, I'll be back soon”, he concluded.

Close to turning 36, Cigano was number one in the division between 2011 and 2012. Having made his Ultimate debut in 2008, the Santa Catarina native has already stepped into the Octagon on 21 occasions, winning 15 and being beaten on six occasions.

The gypsy's best strategy is to retire now

  2. I'm a big fan of Sigano but lately, or rather, after he lost the title, he adopted a boring way of fighting with his guard down, giving his opponent his face to hit and without saying that he doesn't attack and waits a long time to strike and that's why he pays the price. price

DID YOU MAKE A MISTAKE IN YOUR STRATEGY? THE STRATEGY IS TO FIGHT. YOU CANNOT BE A HIGH LEVEL MMA FIGHTER BY PARTICIPATING IN THE FAMOUS DANCES AT FAUSTÃO, WHILE OTHERS ARE DANCING AT THE GYM. I THINK THAT NOW GYPSY ONLY FIGHTS FOR MONEY AND TO SERVE AS A LADDER FOR THE NEW PEOPLE. HE KNOWS THAT.

Cigano, the best defense is and will always be the attack... whoever doesn't do it takes it... if you don't trust your hand, your opponent will even less so... be careful so you don't have the same fate as Renan Barão, who was a dominant champion for for many years and he left...because he no longer had the determination, desire and confidence...I always watched your fights, you were an exciting champion...Go back to trusting your striking and go for it. Better to be defeated by switching, going up, than running sideways, running away rather than going up, like he did in this fight with Blaydes.

There are some fights in this UFC thing that seem bought. Worst of all, Brazilians can't see money, right! In fact, all the Brazilians who lost world titles in this event, it was because they played in the ring, or didn't fight well. Junior Cigano was another one. He had everything to win the fight, but it seems like he felt sorry for his opponent. He gave what he gave. Another defeat.

GYPSY IT'S TIME TO STOP JUST MAKING THEM DON'T GAIN FROM ANYONE ELSE

  7. Congratulations on your career in the past, but you are already an outdated figure, you already know the strategy. Nothing evolved. And the excuses remain the same. So it's better to fight knowing that you're there to fight regardless of the result than to delude yourself that you're going to lift the belt again, because you won't even smell it anymore. Another path, could be Bellator for a change of scenery and a change of coach would also be good. I just hope he comes to terms with it, never again.
