“After I hit Tyron woodley, I will receive my chance to fight for the belt. After beating it, I’m guaranteed to be next in line,” Leon said.
Edwards further commented that, while the current champion, Kamaru Usman – who is recovering from a hand injury suffered in UFC 245, in December – there is no fight scheduled, he could fill the challenger spot after the challenge in England.
“I think (Kamaru) Usman is hurt. At least that's what they say. So if I fight in March and he's still free before the summer, I think I could be next. That’s what’s written in my contract, that I’ll be next,” he concluded.
In recent years, Usman has built an impeccable trajectory within the UFC. Coming from eight consecutive victories and without losing since the setback to Usman himself, in December 2015, the Englishman has charted a perfect path to currently occupy fourth place in the group, behind only Jorge masvidal, Colby covington and from his next rival, Woodley.
In March, Tyron will make his return to the octagon after more than a year away from MMA. The North American has not performed since losing his title to Kamaru, at UFC 235. A victory Leon suffers could put the athlete back in the challenger status.
According to @Leon_edwardsmma, his new contract states that he will earn a welterweight title shot if he defeats Tyron woodley on March 21 in London.
