It's no secret to anyone the desire to Justin gaethje to face Conor McGregor in the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg.). A direct competitor of the Irishman in the category ranking, the North American revealed that he hopes to have the opportunity to face the 'Notório' after the former division champion's great victory against Donald Cerrone No. UFC 246. In an interview with 'Punchlines Podcast', Justin spoke about his desire to try himself against Conor.

“Lately, the guy makes his own decisions and I think he's more confident now. He needed the victory. So yes. I think he would face me now,” said Gaethje.
The dispute between Justin and McGregor doesn't just make sense from a financial point of view for the American. Athletes today are 'glued' to the category ranking. While McGregor is in third place – a position he occupied after defeating Cerrone -, Gaethje is close behind and is looking for the duel to confirm himself as a future challenger for the category belt.
While Conor promoted his return to the octagon last Saturday (18), after being away from MMA for more than a year, Gaethje confirmed himself as a big bet for the future in the lightweight category. After great performances in 2019, including triumphs over Donald, the athlete is looking for a chance to fight for the title, which currently belongs to Khabib Nurmageomdov.
The North American even came into conflict with the Ultimate board after learning that the Irishman might receive a chance to play for the belt after his great success in UFC 246. The company's president, Dana White, however, assured that he will meet with Gaethje to resolve the athlete's situation and find a positive compromise for the fighter.
