“Remember what was said in the shootings, Frankie. Stay low and keep firing. Forever an icon in this game”, wrote Conor.
McGregor began to show his admiration for Edgar when he chose the American to share the Octagon on his return to MMA. At the time, the Irishman asked Ulimtate to carry out the show involving the fighters, but the move was promptly denied by Dana White, president of the organization.
When Conor proposed the fight, Edgar had recently announced that he would move to the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg). The decision was made after the athlete failed in his attempt to win the featherweight title against the former champion, Max Holloway.
Upon learning of the 'Notório' challenge, Frankie accepted the fight, but, as he did not have the approval of the UFC board, the meeting was never negotiated.
On January 18, McGregor will make his return to Ultimate after more than a year away from the sport. The athlete will exchange forces against Donald Cerrone in contention in the welterweight division (up to 77kg.).
