For many people, there is no more complete athlete in MMA than Jon Jones. With one defeat in his career and an undisputed hegemony in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg), the North American has, over the years, achieved achievements and remained at the top of the sport. With visible superiority over his opponents so far, 'Bones' can be seen fighting at heavyweight (up to 120,2kg) next year. In a press conference at the UFC 247, which takes place on February 8, Jon talked about the chance to move up a category.

“After my fight against Thiago Santos (Marreta), I started thinking about entertaining the heavyweight division. I've been wrestling with my brother my whole life. I have trained with Andrei Arlovski and (Alistair) Overeem and all these giants. I always did well. At heavyweight, my movement is as good as at light heavyweight. My versatility, I understand, is something that not all heavyweights can do,” said Jones.

The champion also suggested that his debut could happen as early as 2020. Although he already has a commitment scheduled for the beginning of the year, when he faces Dominick reyes, 'Bones' stated that he may begin the division transition process shortly after the UFC 247.

“It will be tight, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in 2020. I was like heavy not too long ago. Now, I live with a nutritionist. I built a house with a gym in my garage. I feel really good,” Jon said.

Although he has already shown interest in exchanging forces against the current heavyweight champion, Jones is not concerned about choosing a specific opponent to test himself in the new category.

“There will always be someone to face. I feel like I've cleared my division and I'm here waiting for new challenges. I'm not sitting on the belt. I’m not hiding from anyone”, he concluded.

  1. It's true what you said, Jones, and you'll dominate at heavyweight too.
