Former UFC athlete and former Bellator welterweight belt holder (up to 77kg), the Canadian Rory McDonald, 30 years old, was announced as a new PFL (Professional Fighters League) athlete. The information was released on the organization's official social networks, which now have the fighter to make up their group of athletes.

The PFL presented the fighter with an irrefutable proposal, which made him give up trying to regain his title and accept the adventure of appearing as one of the organization's biggest names. The plan is to select Rory to compete for the welterweight belt and select him for the Gran Prix of his division, which awards US$1 million (around R$4 million to the winner, in 2020) to the winner.

MacDonald gained notoriety in MMA after appearing as one of the Ultimate athletes between 2010 and 2017. For the company, there were 13 appearances, with eight wins and five losses, including a title fight, when he faced Robbie Lawler in one of the UFC 189 fights.

In 2017, after a sequence of two consecutive defeats, the Canadian ended up not having his contract renewed with Ultimate and was promptly hired by the competitor. Wearing Bellator gloves, MacDonald stood out for the new organization, winning the title in his second appearance, when he beat Douglas lima in the unanimous decision of the judges.

Rory stayed at Bellator for just over two years and had six fights, with three wins, two setbacks and one draw.

His last fight for the company chaired by Scott Coker marked the loss of his title in the rematch against Lima, in October, for Bellator 232.
