Amanda Nunes admits performance below expectations at UFC 245: 'I was a little off'

The Brazilian Amanda nunes It wasn't an easy task last weekend. In her fifth defense of the bantamweight title (up to 61,2kg), the Bahian found it difficult to defeat the Dutch Germain de Randamie in one of the main fights of the UFC 245, held last Saturday (14). After the event, the athlete admitted that she performed below expectations, but assured that she will work to perform better in the next opportunities. The statement was made at the press conference after the event.

“Honestly, I was a little off today, but I'm the champion. I always have plans A, B, C and more. If something goes wrong in the first strategy, I go to the next one. I couldn't do well in my striking, so I decided to take the fight to the ground”, said the Pojucana.

The Brazilian, however, admitted that the initial idea was to hold a five-round confrontation against the challenger. Despite almost settling the bill in the first round, the fighter confirmed that the strategy was to stay in the Octagon for as long as possible against the Dutchwoman.

The game plan was to fight for five rounds and work on takedowns. I almost got two submissions, but I made some mistakes and I have to fix that. There was a little lack of technique, but I will adjust it for my next appointment”, concluded the champion.

With the triumph over Germaine, Amanda equaled the record for Ronda Rousey in the number of title defenses. Now, the athlete is one victory in the bantamweight division away from becoming the best athlete in the history of the division.
