the fight of Conor McGregor against Donald Cerrone, UFC 246, in January, could mean much more than just the Irishman’s return to the octagon. If he proves that he can still perform at a high level and beats the North American, the president of Ultimate, Dana White, stated that he could promote the 'Notório' rematch against Khabib Nurmagomedov still in 2020. The information was disclosed in an interview with 'BT Sport'.

Former featherweight (up to 65,7kg) and lightweight (up to 70,3kg) champion, McGregor fought, together with the Russian, one of the most watched clashes in the history of MMA. With Khabib, the Irishman built a rivalry that ended up going beyond the limits of the octagon and fueled thousands of spectators to watch the main fight of UFC 229, in October last year.
At the time, Conor returned to the UFC to try for his title, which he lost due to his inactivity within the company. In the fight, the Irishman ended up dominated by Nurmagomedov and was defeated by submission in the fourth round.
After the defeat, McGregor spent a long period without acting. The athlete attempted a return to Ultimate in 2019, but it ended up not materializing.
After more than a year without performing, Conor announced, in a recent press conference held in Russia, that he would return to the Octagon on January 18, even before an official statement from the UFC. Weeks later, the company confirmed the information and said that the Irishman would fight against the charismatic Donald Cerrone in the main fight of UFC 246, in Las Vegas (USA).
