Nunes became number one at featherweight after shocking the world and defeating the undisputed Chris Cyborg, considered one of the most dangerous women in mixed martial arts. In a confrontation valid for UFC 232, the 'Leoa' took no notice of her compatriot and emerged victorious after a brutal knockout in the first round.

After the triumph in the top division, Ultimate has found it difficult to find an opponent who can stand up to the Bahian in a fight that isn't just another commitment for the Pojucana. The initial idea was to have a rematch against Cris, but, due to differences between the athlete and the UFC management, Cyborg ended up not having her contract renewed and transferred to Bellator, preventing a repeat of the confrontation.
