According to Covington, Dana White created stories stating that the North American was creating obstacles to accept the duel against the current champion. The fight between the two should represent the main fight of the UFC 244, which took place in early November. However, after failing to reach an agreement, the fight ended up being replaced by a clash between Jorge masvidal e Nate diaz.

The fact that the dispute was not made official angered the UFC president, who publicly declared that the fight for the belt did not take place as a result of the North American's impositions, which would not be in accordance with the values ​​proposed to face the Nigerian.

Covington then started attacking the 'boss' and officially declared war on White, publicly criticizing the president in interviews and denying Dana's claims.

“It's very sad, because people believe the things he says. They believe everything they read, but they don't believe what they see. He wants to blame me for the fight not happening, but what about Kamaru Usman?” Colby said.

Covington, however, signaled that the financial part was, in fact, instrumental in ensuring that the meeting between him and Usman did not take place in November. For the North American, who is a former interim champion of the division, the company was not giving him the credit that, according to him, he deserved.

“Why do they ask me to fight offering me that ridiculous amount of money? I made this fight larger than life,” said the American.

Covington also criticized the fact that the president of Ultimate had told lies about him in interviews, which caused the fighter's anger, who refuted Dana's statements.

“He is always making up lies about me in the media, making false statements. Even though I'm brutally honest, people recognize how truthful I am and people should know that I always tell the truth,” he said.

When analyzing whether there could be, at some point, a point of peace between them, Colby did not hesitate and ruled out any possibility of a good relationship between them, regardless of the outcome of the match. UFC 245, on December 14th, when he will finally exchange forces against Kamaru.
