About three years later and almost a thousand days of waiting, WGP Kickboxing is back in Fortaleza for another show. On December 8th, the capital of Ceará will host the 61st edition with a card like that. The event takes place at the Paulo Sarasate gym and features duels full of expectations. The main fight of the night pits super-lightweight champion (up to 64,5kg) Paulo Tebar against Argentine Tomas 'Chacal' Aguirre, champion of the last Challenger GP in the category. In the second most anticipated duel, the Ceará Ron Jason, former UFC fighter, has his first kickboxing fight against Ecuadorian Aaron Cañarte, in the welterweight division (under 71,8kg).

“This return to Fortaleza is very symbolic. A city that welcomed us so well three years ago and has always been on our radar for a return. We are very happy that we were able to return. And we couldn't return without creating a card of the level that the city deserves. The title fight between Paulinho Tebar and Tomas Chacal promises a lot of emotions. A dominant champion facing a promise that is emerging very well, it has everything to be a great fight. And the debut of an athlete of Rony's caliber was also our wish and we are happy that everything went well. I'm sure he and Aaron will put on a great show for the public”, guarantees Paulinho Zorello, president of the WGP.

One of the most undisputed champions of the WGP is Paulinho Tebar from São Paulo. Former champion of the division below him, the lightweight division, and with three super lightweight defenses to his credit, Tebar looks like a veteran in the ring despite his 29 years. In his career he has 35 wins in 45 fights and has only been defeated in the WGP once, in the distant ninth edition. His last appearance was a victory that left no doubt, in April of this year, against Jordan Kranio, one of the strongest names in the division.

On the other side will be Argentine Tomas Chacal, just 20 years old. Despite his young age, Chacal, whose nickname is due to the animal's striking characteristic that is always ready to pounce, arrives with a respectable resume. There are 19 fights fought and 17 victories. In the WGP, the Argentine from the capital Buenos Aires has three fights and three wins. And most impressively: all by knockout. In front of Tebar he has the chance of his career.

Ron Jason debut

WGP 61 also brings a major debut. Quixadá, from Ceará, about two hours from the capital Fortaleza, Ron Jason has his first kickboxing fight in front of his legion of fans, friends and family. At 35 years old, Rony had a career in MMA and had stints in the UFC and also on the organization's reality show, The Ultimate Fighter Brasil. Known for his knockout power, Rony bets on boxing to triumph in the first stand-up duel of his career.

On the opposite side of the ring will be Ecuadorian Aaron Cañarte. At 23 years old, he is undefeated in his professional career with five wins in five fights. At WGP, Aaron made his debut in edition 56, in Argentina, and beat Diego Tonson by majority decision. The WGP organization will soon release the full card.
